Welcome!
Dear Franconia Ski Club Families:
The long days of summer have come and gone, and the Club just completed its 13th Annual Nines of the Notch Golf Tournament, signaling the approach of the new ski season. Undoubtedly, our returning athletes will re-enter the familiar ground of Ernie's Haus noticeably taller, stronger and wiser than when they left in March. New families and their athletes will enter through the doors at Ernie's Haus to find their respective home within our Club, and we all look forward to seeing both old and new friends as the season approaches. Needless to say, this is an exciting time of the year as we anticipate the first day on snow, the first powder day and the first day that our year begins anew.
The Franconia Ski Club’s Board of Directors has worked very hard through the summer on a number of initiatives, some planned, some unforeseen. Our plans to renovate Ernies Haus have been delayed while the State Of New Hampshire discusses a proposal to lease Cannon Mountain; but undeterred, the Board has initiated and completed a number of other initiatives, including a technology upgrade of our MemberClicks system and a redesign of our website. As a result, online registration will be available for the 2011/2012 ski season, featuring the availability of electronic payments for those members seeking the convenience of credit card payments. Training fees have increased by 3% to reflect the expense of processing payments electronically, but for those who prefer to pay by check, this season’s training fees will go mostly unchanged.
Prior to the season officially starting on snow, there are a number of opportunities for members to get involved. First, the annual Ski Swap will take place on November 12th, and there is ample opportunity for members to be involved as a donor, volunteer or simply as a consumer of some ‘lightly” used equipment. Beyond the Ski Swap, the Auction Committee has already ramped-up its efforts following the success of last year’s event, and other committees are working diligently on other improvements for our organization. Our new website provides information on all FSC’s committees, and I encourage you seek out the Chairs of these committees to lend a hand in the coming months.
Lastly, and possibly most importantly, FSC needs to grow its pool of qualified Alpine Officials (“AO”s), particularly in the area of Chief of Course, Chief of Race, and of course, Timing. Year after year, the Club has relied on the same members to fill these roles, and our reputation for running the highest quality races is a reflection of their selfless dedication. However, we need new members to step forward and learn to carry the torch that these men and women have carried for many years. The next AO clinic is in early December, so please check the NHARA website or contact Tina Virgin soon to coordinate your participation.
This is going to be a great ski season for FSC, its members and its athletes, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Brian C. Koeller, President
Franconia Ski Club

Important Notes
Race Worker Credits – FSC members with racing children are expected to work the equivalent of six (6) race credits. Families with only J6 racers are expected to work one (1) race credit. Each race worked is equal to one (1) race credit. Although not encouraged, families may elect not to work the races by paying $900.00 in advance. Families not fulfilling their race worker obligation and not paying the fee in advance will be assessed a penalty of $200 per credit. For a full description of FSC’ Race Worker Requirements, please refer to Race Worker Requirements & Jobs.
Refunds – Training fees will be refunded at 50% for those athletes withdrawing from the program prior to the first day of on-snow training at Cannon Mountain. No refunds will be available after that date. If an athlete suffers a season ending injury, a 50% refund can be requested if before January 1st and accompanied by a doctor’s note. Refunds apply to training fees only; the family membership of $125 is not refundable. If the injured athlete recovers and is cleared to ski at a later date, the refunded training fee must be repaid to the club prior to commencement of training. All approved refunds will be paid within 30 days.
Late Applications - Athletes applying after the Application Deadline of October 31, 2011 will be accepted at the discretion of the Program Director. We are always welcoming of athletes into our program, however, athlete to coach ratio is very important to the success of the club. Every effort will be made to accept everyone applying for membership.
Scholarships - Limited scholarships are available based on financial hardship, commitment and ability. Please contact Brian Koeller, FSC President directly to discuss the Scholarship Application Process.
